Check Your Insulation
If your home has had the same insulation since it was built or may even have the wrong amount for your area, you might be losing out when it comes to your energy spending! Insulation helps keep air trapped inside to circulate and keep the temperature indoors stable so heating or AC won't have to run for long. If it's not working as it should, however, you may be spending more than is necessary on these systems! Insulation can be damaged from water, pests, and otherwise, so getting it looked at to ensure it’s properly insulating your home can make all the difference. If not, or if you want to upgrade it to a material that works better than what's there, you can have it replaced easily by professionals. -
Get Your Attic Cleaned
This one may seem strange and like it has nothing to do with energy, but you'd be surprised! Dust accumulating for years untouched in your attic doesn't only affect that area, it gets drawn into your ducts as well to clog them over time. This means air is slowed down as it tries to get through, and it forces your heating and AC to run longer in order to fully adjust your house's temperature. Just the simple step of having your attic completely cleared out regularly can make a difference in your energy spending over time! -
Have Attic Air Sealing Installed
Even with the best insulation, there are bound to still be cracks and spaces in your attic that allow for air to get out, and even a small amount leaking over time adds up. Attic air sealing means that a technician will test to find all of these spots, then close them up to create an air tight seal! Air can then circulate and create a stable temperature so your AC and heating can run less. -
Install A Radiant Barrier
A radiant barrier is particularly helpful in hotter climates, as it keeps your home cooler in the summer naturally so your AC won't need to run as much. It bounces the sun's rays away from your home, rather than allowing them in to heat everything up.
